Professional development involves formal and informal learning experiences that help to enhance your personal and career growth. This might include developing new skills, content knowledge, and strategies for teaching. It might involve your abilities both inside and outside the classroom that come together to make you a more valuable instructor, part of your school's team, and member of the educational community.
Professional development can take many forms including your involvement in mentoring, continuing education, and in-service training. It may even include ways in which you and your peers learn and grow from each other. The State of Florida has in depth information on professional development on their Teach In Florida website. Some of the areas you can get information about include:
Staff Developer's Toolkit - offering readings, links, documents, and tips to help prepare for a Professional Development System Evaluation.
Florida's MSPD - focusing on mathematics and science and the idea that student improvement involves an investment in teacher development.
Florida Online Reading Professional Development - designed to help teachers improve reading instruction for learners in grades preK-12.
Professional Development Alternatives for Exceptional Student Educators - provides a wide range of information for ESE teachers.
