Depending on the age of your student and the subject(s) that you teach, there are other ways to build important connections with your students' families. Most of these ideas can be adapted to fit most classes and ages of children. Experiment with one or two and start to build a file of your own. You might also get some good ideas by asking others on your faculty about their successes with family connections.
Again, the best information source of good ideas for ways to creatively connect school and home is the people who work with you at school. Share your successes with them and ask them to help you build your own repertoire.
