Whether your school calls it Open House, Back to School Night, Meet the Teacher Night, School for Parents Night, the purpose is for parents to learn more about you and for you to learn more about your students through their families. Think of it as a great opportunity for you to provide parents with important information for the year ahead.
Unfortunately, most Open Houses take place on a school night after you've spent all day teaching. Showing up for Open House feeling tired and unprepared makes it difficult to be at your best. Besides getting a good night of sleep before Open House, there are many things you can do to prepare yourself for success. In fact, as soon as you become part of the faculty, you can ask other teachers what to expect at your particular school regarding parent meetings.
