Educators New to Florida
Educators moving to Florida will find a wide array of teaching opportunities. Florida
is a large and diverse state with many opportunities for educators seeking to make
a difference.
Public education in Florida has a two-tiered organizational structure.
- Statewide: A common core of statutes, rules, and regulations establish
goals and practices that apply to all public schools in Florida. Teacher certification
requirements are set at the state level. Teaching certificates are issued through
the Florida Department of Education.
- Florida has reciprocity agreements with many states and your certificate
from another state may qualify you for a Florida teaching certificate.
- Information on certification is available at this website: http://www.fldoe.org/edcert/
- Districts: Each of Florida’s 67 counties is a separate school district.
Local issues and priorities are set through district school boards and administrations.
